Key Achievements

  • Keller’s engineering excellence helped in providing the project with the technique that would perform consistently under high load scenario, in variable ground conditions.
  • Successfully installed over 2500 anchors at varying ground levels ( up to 22m deep ) to suit the design requirements.

The Project

BMRC was developing underground metro station and ramp portion at city market under UG 2 package and four metro stations at Vidhan Sabha, Central College and cricket Stadium under UG 1 package. Respectively, 24M and 20M excavations were to be done at proposed site. The retention system for deep excavation was proposed with combination of secant pile package walls with inclined temporary retrievable ground anchors at different levels for UG 1 package and combination of soldier pile walls with timber lagging and inclined ground anchors at different levels for UG 2 package.

The Challenge

The main challenge associated with the project was to stabilize slope and retaining walls by installing more than 2500 anchors at different ground levels in excavations as deep as 22M within a limited time frame.

The Solution

For UG 1 package, Keller installed around 1100 anchors that were designed for tolerating 55T to 75T capacity to support the secant pile wall. The fixed length of the anchor was filled with primary and secondary high strength grout. The free length was of anchor was long enough to bypass failure wedge.

For UG 2 package, Keller installed around 1500 anchors that were designed for tolerating 88T capacity to support soldier pile wall. The free length was covered with PVC pipe to eliminate load transfer and was long enough to bypass the failure wedge.
